Bravo Arrives on Philo’s $25 Plan, but On-Demand Shows Will Have to Wait

The NBCUniversal agreement adds Bravo's live channel to Philo without a price increase; additional on-demand programming and promised free channels remain undated.

Bravo is now part of Philo’s live television lineup, giving reality television viewers a lower-cost way to watch the channel without signing up for one of the larger live-TV bundles. But there is a detail worth understanding before subscribers assume the entire Bravo catalog has arrived: the live channel is available now, while additional on-demand programming is still planned for a later date.

Philo began carrying Bravo on Thursday, November 5. The service is advertising Bravo as available on all of its paid plans at no additional charge, with subscriptions starting at $25 per month. The addition is part of Philo’s first distribution agreement with NBCUniversal, according to Deadline’s reporting on the agreement.

What Subscribers Actually Get

Bravo’s live feed brings the network’s programming into a service already centered on entertainment, lifestyle and unscripted television. Bravo is home to franchises including THE REAL HOUSEWIVES and BELOW DECK, making the channel an especially relevant addition for Philo’s existing audience.

For now, the distinction is between access to a network and access to every episode of every show. Philo can carry Bravo live without automatically offering the full on-demand libraries that viewers may associate with the channel or with Peacock. On-demand Bravo programming is expected to follow, but the companies have not announced a specific arrival date in the reporting available Thursday.

That makes this a useful addition for viewers who want live Bravo programming. It is not yet a confirmed replacement for every other way to stream the network’s shows.

Why NBCUniversal Wants Another Door Into Bravo

Philo has built its subscription service around entertainment rather than trying to duplicate a traditional, sports-heavy cable package. The result is a lower entry price and a more selective channel lineup. Adding Bravo strengthens that approach because it fills a prominent gap for reality television fans without changing the advertised $25 starting price.

Bravo’s Love Hotel backdrop

The fit is supported by Philo’s own audience figures. In an original interview with The Streamable, Philo’s head of content acquisition, Adam Salmons, discussed the deal and the company said nearly 85% of its active subscribers watch reality programming. That figure is the company’s description of its customers, not an independently audited industry total.

For NBCUniversal, an additional carriage agreement puts Bravo in front of subscribers who specifically chose a less expensive entertainment bundle. The agreement does not mean NBCUniversal is abandoning Peacock, nor has either company announced that Peacock-exclusive programming will transfer to Philo.

More Channels Are Promised, but the Details Are Missing

The companies also plan to bring a selection of NBCUniversal’s free, ad-supported television channels, commonly known as FAST channels, to Philo.

The agreement also includes plans to bring NBCUniversal’s free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels to Philo. However, Philo’s head of content acquisition, Adam Salmons, could not confirm which channels would be included or when they would launch, according to a November 5 interview with The Streamable.

Streaming competition is increasingly about assembling the right collection of channels and libraries, not simply counting how many services a household can subscribe to. Bravo’s arrival gives Philo a more complete reality-television offering at its existing entry price. Whether the deal eventually delivers the on-demand access viewers want is the part still to be determined.
