Starship Troopers
A new kind of enemy. A new kind of war.
Set in the future, the story follows a young soldier named Johnny Rico and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnoid species known as "the Bugs."
This big dumb sci-fi blockbuster about killing alien bugs is one of the most effective satires a Hollywood studio has ever released. Presented as in-universe propaganda and using the iconography and narrative techniques of real-life fascist regimes, Starship Troopers works at whatever level of engagement you're willing to contribute as a viewer.
Directed by Paul Verhoeven
Starring Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris
