Row K Freezes New Film Distribution After Financial Troubles
The fledgling independent distributor's parent company confirms a pause in new activity and a sharp reduction in expenses.
Row K Entertainment, a new name in independent theatrical distribution, is freezing plans for new film releases.
Parent company Media Capital Technologies confirmed the decision in a statement provided to TheWrap on October 29. The company said it will stop new activities tied to film distribution, substantially reduce operating costs and return its focus to its core business.
TheWrap separately reported that Row K missed employee payroll and rent payments in October and laid off four employees. Those claims come from the outlet’s reporting and have not been independently established through public financial records.

Row K launched in 2025 and sought to bring independent films to cinemas at a time when filmmakers have been looking for additional release partners. The distributor acquired several titles, but its limited output illustrates just how demanding theatrical marketing and distribution can be for smaller companies.
The broader consequence is straightforward: another possible route from a completed independent film to a theatrical audience is now on hold. That doesn’t mean Row K has formally dissolved, and MCT has not announced a permanent closure. It does mean filmmakers and sales agents have one fewer active buyer to count on for the moment.
